Narrative: Using Dialogue

Dialogue

Dialogue is a tool that narrative authors use to move stories along and show how characters respond to and feel about situations. On
e way to do this is to weave dialogue into a dialogue-free text.

Example:
We were walking along the path when the dogs disappeared into the brush.  Everything seemed to get still and quiet.  Karl smelled something.  Tomas said was a skunk.

Revision of weaved dialogue:
We were walking along the path when the dogs disappeared into the brush.  Everything seemed to get still and quiet.
"Do you smell something?" Karl asked.
     "Oh, no! Skunnnnnk!" Tomas shouted.
